Here's a brutally honest review about DIY mung bean or besan mask. I've used this for almost six months as part of natural skin care and the after effects were shocking. As part of night time skincare I've added one teaspoon of plain water to 2 teaspoons of mung bean powder and applied it for 15 minutes before washing it off with normal water. And repeated this process alone for almost six months. Remember I've used this alone. No moisturizer, serums, face washes or sunscreens. I've used this DIY with a hope that it would take my skin care to the next level and hoped this alone could give me that celebrity-like skin. But gradually I began to notice these changes:
- My skin was getting drier and textures and dry patches started to get more prominent.
- Dry patches began to give itchy pimples, so I decided to add tomato hoping it would help. But it actually worsened my acne.
- I've never really noticed any visible reduction in tanning because I was not using a sunscreen these days.
- When my under eyes started getting dryer I've decided to conduct a through research.
Even after happening these incidents I was not ready to consult a doctor. And after a couple of research and studies I understood the importance of skincare routine. Since I was a student and didn't have much money to invest for a skincare routine I again decided to do DIYs and gentle skincare but with proper care and precautions.
- I decided to invest in a basic gentle cleanser by Simple. Since I had bad reaction from my previous incident I only used the facewash at night.
- I've made a DIY toner with green tea by distillation method. This process helped me to reduce breakouts and itchiness on my face
- As final night time routine I used basic aleo vera gel as moisturizer and ofcourse I bought it from store because at this point I've realized the danger behind using homemade aleo vera gel.
- At this time I was cautious about the pillow case I was using and also developed a good hair care routine so that the pillow would not get any dirt from my hair.
- In the morning I washed my face with just normal water. After pat dry I again use aloe vera gel with two drops of plant based glycerin on my face and around my neck. I didn't use any sunscreen this time because of online classes and lockdown and that I rarely stepped out of my house.
I continued this for almost four months until I noticed a significant reduction in acne and a broken skin barrier. When I felt myself recovered from bad skin days, I updated my routine and discovered more routine for each and every skin concern. So, these are the very few yet effective simple humble steps I took to overcome my bad skin days as a student. And even though I was aware of skincare acids I never used them during this time. I always had a good and healthy gluten free, sugar free, and fried food free diet I was able to recover from my bad skin days very very quickly.
